AN EAST End charity was congratulated for its work with old and young residents when the Minister for Equality dropped into the borough this week.

Michael Foster visited Oaklands School in Old Bethnal Green Road yesterday to hear more about the Bethnal Green-based charity Magic Me.

He heard about the charity's close work with the secondary school and its aim to improve relationships between children and pensioners through a range of unique projects.

The MP for Hastings and Rye met the charity's Project Director Susan Langford and took part in a workshop where pupils and members of the charity discussed the benefits of inter-generational work.

He said: "Congratulations to Magic Me and the many thousands of young and older people who have benefited over 20 years.

"With the number of people over 85 set to double in the next 20 years, it is essential that older people are not written off because of their age.
