Morale at Bow fire station “couldn’t be lower” according to serving fire fighters there.

A group of fire fighters from the station attended Tuesday’s meeting, with several of them visibly angered by London Fire Brigade chiefs’ answers.

Simon Wilkinson has been based at Bow fire station for the past 28 years.

“I don’t think this is a sensible plan for the future of fire fighting in Tower Hamlets”, he said.

“We are not happy with this. We’re not just going to lie down and take it.”

Mr Wilkinson pointed to pay freezes and the knowledge that they are on the shortlist to be closed as reasons for low morale at Bow fire station.

He admitted the issue was “close to my heart” because of the length of time he has served at the station.
