Longer weekday late evening trains are being put on the Fenchurch Street network through east London and Essex to help Christmas shoppers and partygoers get back home.

The C2C train operators are doubling the carriages on 500 trains from four to eight until after midnight, up to December 21.

This adds 10,000 extra seats as the usually quiet times after the rush-hour are getting busier during the festive season.

The first late evening train with eight carriages is the 7.25pm from Fenchurch Street to Grays, through Limehouse, West Ham, Barking and Rainham. The last long train of the night pulls out of Fenchurch Street in the City at 12.34am for Shoeburyness, through Barking, Upminster, Laindon and Southend Central.
