Morecambe manager Jim Bentley was disappointed the Shrimps couldn’t do themselves justice against Leyton Orient on Saturday.

The O’s made the long trip up to the Globe Arena and returned to east London with a deserved three points.

Kevin Ellison equalised for Morecambe four minutes into the second half after Liam Kelly had put the visitors ahead in the 27th minute.

But Jordan Bowery’s deflected effort beat home custodian Barry Roche in the 55th minute and it ensured Andy Hessenthaler’s men achieved a 2-1 victory.

“We are a better side than we have showed against Leyton Orient. Credit to them, they come here with a game plan,” said Bentley.

“They have been committed and had a stroke of luck with the winner, but we’ve had that of late so hopefully it evens itself out over the season.

“We have not helped ourselves and we played a hand in losing the game because we haven’t performed as well as we have done of late.”

Bentley didn’t think his Shrimps got up to full speed against the O’s having won their previous four League Two matches - against the likes of Blackpool, Portsmouth, Yeovil Town and Accrington Stanley.

It was that form which fired Morecambe to the top of the table, but Orient knocked them down to second after events at the weekend.

“We never really got up to full speed of what we know we are capable of so in all departments we can do better,” said Bentley.

“I didn’t think we were absolutely shocking, but we’ve dipped below our standards and that is why we’ve lost the game.

“We haven’t performed as good as we know we can do so that’s disappointing and we’ll take it on the chin.

“We’ll remain confident because we are still second in the table and it is all to play for with another game this Saturday.”
