FIVE people, including a mother and her six-year-old son, had to be taken to hospital for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in their block of flats last week.

The fire started on the fourth floor of 25-storey Kelson House on the Isle of Dogs around 9pm on Friday night.

The tenant of the flat where the fire started was taken to the Royal London Hospital along with her six-year-old boy. Three other people were also treated in hospital for smoke inhalation.

The whole block of 144 flats had to be evacuated by the fire brigade and neighbours were not allowed back into their homes until 10pm.

Two families have been placed in temporary accommodation while their homes are repaired by One Housing Group.
