The mother of a man who died at a party nearly six years ago has launched a petition as she continues her search for answers about the circumstances of her son’s death.

Cambridge graduate Mark Blanco died at the age of 30 after falling from a balcony at a party in Romford Street, Whitechapel in December 2006. Since then, his mother, Sheila, has campaigned tirelessly for the police to investigate allegations that Mr Blanco was pushed to his death by one of the guests at the party.

Among those guests were former Libertines frontman Pete Doherty, with whom Mr Blanco reportedly had an altercation before falling. They also included Mr Doherty’s minder, Johnny ‘Headlock’ Jeannevol, who admitted to pushing Mr Blanco before later withdrawing his confession, claiming he had been “off his head” when he made it.

Mr Blanco died in the Royal London Hospital the day after plummeting from the first floor balcony. His mum has now launched a petition demanding justice after what she describes as a “disgraceful” wait.

The petition, which has already gained hundreds of signatures, reads: “We are fighting for justice for Mark Blanco who has not yet received a fair, open-minded and thorough police investigation, though he was unlawfully killed nearly six years ago. Please support this campaign and help to bring about change in the institutionally incompetent and corrupt Met police.”

Speaking to the Advertiser, she added: “It seems impossible for us to get to the Met to do their job properly. It’s absolutely disgraceful.”

Since submitting a dossier several hundred pages in length to the Independent Police Complaints Commission in July 2011, Ms Blanco has received no further clarification around the circumstances of her son’s death.

Both the IPCC and the police confirmed that complaints regarding the Met’s investigation into Mr Blanco’s death had been received, and were currently under consideration, but decliend to provide further information about the case.
