Police investigating the death of a refugee who drowned in the Thames have released his picture in a bid to trace his next of kin.

Moustafa Ragouni, 27, was pulled from the water near Wapping on Sunday, October 14.

He is believed to have entered the water the previous day at Luralda Wharf, and despite a search of the area he was not found.

Moustafa had no identification on him, but inquiries found he was a Moroccan national who had entered the UK in August last year and claimed asylum.

He had lived in Coventry, Glasgow and Bedfordshire, but it is not known when he arrived in London or where he had been living prior to his death.

He is not thought to have any family in the UK and his death is not being treated as suspicious.

Det Con Gavin Markey said: “We have carried out a number of enquiries with various agencies including the Home Office and the Moroccan consulate but unfortunately we have not been able to trace any of Moustafa’s relatives.

“Issuing his image to the media and public is the last resort in our enquiries as all other avenues have been exhausted. Any next of kin he has deserve to know what has happened to him.”

Anyone who recognises Moustafa and has information about his family should call police on 101 quoting CAD 2765/10 Oct.
