MP Jim Fitzpatrick tucked into a healthy samosa when he looked in at a summer fete in London’s East End where food from around the world was on offer.

He homed in at the Corbin summer fete on the healthy food stall run by Kingsley Hall community centre, which has a mission to spread the word about healthy food in his Poplar & Limehouse constituency, to combat rising obesity and diabetes.

But Kingsley Hall’s Beatrice Nicholson admitted: “We’re up against a tidal wave of fried chicken takeaways.

“Our vegetarian stall didn’t do too well against the hot dog stall at the fete which stole the show—they were selling Halal burgers.”

The MP was served by volunteer Sunita Gupta (pictured) who runs Kingsley Hall’s ‘3 Bees’ healthy food caf which opens once-a-week on Tuesdays, 4-8pm. The caf plans a Chinese culture event later this month with an evening of traditional healthy food and good music.
