The government must take immediate steps to ensure Halal meat is not contaminated, Bethnal Green and Bow MP Rushanara Ali has urged.
Ms Ali wrote to the minister of state for agriculture and food David Heath after pork DNA was found in Halal meat earlier this year.
“My constituents are rightly concerned about the standards of meat being served to their children and I will continue to hold the government to account on this issue, which is of critical importance to so many of British Muslims”, she said.
Tower Hamlets Council has previously insisted it had investigated the meat served in its schools to ensure it is free from horse meat or pork.
