A GANG of men beat a passer-by with a belt buckle and a metal bar during and attempted robbery in Bromley-by-Bow at the weekend.

The 25-year-old victim was treated in hospital for bruising to his face and needed stitches for a cut on his head after the attack in Devas Street around 9.20pm on Saturday.

He was attacked outside a parade of shops by a gang of five men who beat him with a belt buckle and a metal bar and tried to steal his phone and wallet.

The attackers ran off and the victim managed to walk home where he called 999.

Police have described the muggers as two Asian men aged in their 20s, two black men in their 20s and a white man aged between 20 and 30.

One of the Asian men was wearing a white hooded top with graffiti on the front.
