A-Level students from Mulberry School for Girsl celebrated their A-Level results today (Thursday), with more than 80 per cent achieving A*-C grades.

The nerves they had felt beforehand turned to ecstasy for almost all of the students as they opened their envolopes, along with their peers up and down the country on Thursday.

Many excelled, with the vast majority receiving the grades required for their university choices. One high achiever, Sumayyah Tasnim, will start a degree in government and economics at the London School of Economics in September after achieving three A grades in maths, history, and philosophy and ethics.

She said: “It just seems really surreal. We’ve all been working for this for two years, and finally it’s here. I really cannot thanks people enough for their support, from my teachers to my family.”

For some, the nerves in the build-up to results day had proved almost unbearable. Afifa Gill, also of Mulberry School for Girls, said: “I felt sick, and I only got about an hours sleep last night.”

Despite her nerves, Afifa received the results she wanted, achieving two As in history and English Literature and a B in psychology. She is now looking forward to beginning a history degree at the School of Oriental and African Studies, part of the University of London. She added: “I’m going there with an open mind. I guess the environment will be quite different to college, but I’m really excited.”

At Mulberry School for Girls, 20 per cent of all grades were either A* or A, and around 80 per cent were A* to C. Headteacher Vanessa Ogden paid tribute to the studnets.

“They have worked really hard, so they deserved to do really well”, she said. “We have had three good years of results now, which I am pleased about, but the main thing is that I am pleased for the students.”
