THE mum of a schoolboy who was stabbed in the stomach says she now fears for the safety of her children and is considering moving out of Tower Hamlets.

The mum-of-two who did not want to be named spoke out this week after her 15-year-old son Marcel was knifed last Tuesday afternoon in Manchester Road on the Isle of Dogs.

He was left at the entrance to Reef House but managed to drag himself up two flights of stairs where a resident found him and raised the alarm.

Surgeons operated on him for three hours at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel and he was sent home on Friday but is still unable to walk, eat or wash himself without help.

His mum, who moved from Brazil to England 10 years ago and has a four-month-old son, claims Marcel had never been in a fight before but says she is now "petrified" about him leaving the house.

She told the Advertiser: "It seems to be part of the culture at the moment to go into the kitchen and pick up a knife.

"It is not ok to live like this and everyone is suffering.

"I never thought it would happen to us but it did and it could happen to anyone.

"I don't want Marcel to walk on the streets again. I am thinking about moving."

Marcel claims he was outside an off-licence in Manchester Road when he was approached by a group of around five boys who started teasing him and calling him names.

Marcel insists he told the boys to "shut up" before one of them grabbed him.

He managed to escape to nearby Reef House where he was planning to visit a friend but as he entered the block, he was stabbed.

His mum added: "I am lucky that I still have him. But it has been such a traumatic experience for him.

"Something has to change. The police need to get more involved and ensure it is not so easy for an attack like this to happen."

A police spokeswoman said cops were called to Manchester Road last Tuesday at 4.30pm where they found "a 15-year-old male with a stab wound to the abdomen."

They arrested two boys in connection with the incident who were released on bail and enquiries are still ongoing.
