POLICE are appealing tonight for witnesses after a 68-year-old grandmother died following a road accident in East London involving a Continental articulated lorry.
Mother-of-four Patricia Murphy, a married woman living close by who had two grown up sons, two grown-up daughters and six grandchildren, was crossing Homerton High Street on Friday morning when she was injured.
Mrs Murphy was taken by ambulance to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, but died seven hours later.
A post mortem takes place tomorrow (Tuesday), with an inquest opening at Poplar Coroner’s Court on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old lorry driver involved was arrested at the scene on suspicion of careless driving, Scotland Yard said tonight.
He was taken to an East London Police station and later bailed to return in September, pending further enquiries.
Accident investigators are appealing for anyone who was in Homerton High Street on Friday at 11am, at the junction with Kenworthy Road, to call the Collision Unit at Euston on 020-7388 6806.
