Walayat Khokhar has been nominated for an MBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list in recognition of his services to the charity Muslim Aid.

Mr Khokhar, who is 72, was nominated by Chairman Sir Iqbal Sacranie OBE with the unanimous agreement of the charity’s board of trustees.

Mr Khokhar lives in Wembley, but he has worked in Muslim Aid’s London office in Whitechapel Road for around 12 years.

Speaking to The Advertiser, he said: “It’s a very prestigious award, so I feel very much delighted and extremely humbled. However, all the credit should go to this organisation, which has been extremely kind and considerate in putting me forward.”
