Dear Editor,

IT IS appalling that Tower Hamlets council wants to sell off the wonderful Bancroft building and 'rehouse' the archive and local history collection ('Advertiser launches fight to save East End archive heritage,' Advertiser website).

I am a professional historian and visited the Bancroft Library recently. It is an absolute gold mine for historians of all aspects of East End life and should be saved for the community.

In all of London there must be somewhere else for the Holocaust Weiner Library Centre. The Bancroft is not the place.
