The founder of a Tower Hamlets sports organisation has been crowned Young Entrepreneur of the Year at the Precious Awards 2012 after being nominated by a mystery figure.

Nevertheless, the 25-year-old was delighted to be recognised at the awards, which were established six years ago to celebrate the achievements of “inspirational entrepreneurial women of colour”.

She said: “I didn’t really expect it! But I’ve been working hard, and my staff has been working hard and delivering.

“It’s good having recognition from parents and teachers, but from someone from outside it’s really great.

“Someone put me forward for the award, but I didn’t even know until a few weeks ago!”

Amie’s organisation, which is based in Fashion Street off Brick Lane, goes into schools, workplaces and community groups to oversee sports sessions. It now has six programmes designed especially for helping involve disabled people in sport and outdoor activities.

“They are life skills as well as physical skills that people get out of it”, she said.

“Our mission is to get the personal best out of each person who attends.”

The majority of the organisations Run Fun Starz has been involved with have been based in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Hackney. Now, though, Greenwich resident Amie is looking to expand the business across London.
