TRANSPORT for London remains tight lipped over the opening date of the hotly anticipated East London Line, despite rumours the extended line was due to reopen this month.
Gossip was circulating that the first stage of the upgraded line, which will run from Dalston Junction in the north, through the East End, to New Cross in the south, was due to reopen last week but, although test trains are running along the track, the line remains closed to the public.
TFL says the project is still ahead of schedule, with the tracks and new and upgraded stations at Shoreditch High Street, Whitechapel, Shadwell and Wapping operational, but that a few last minute kinks needed ironing out.
A spokesman said: "Originally we hadn't planned to open until the end of June so we're still way ahead of schedule.
"There are still some issues with software and onboard cameras that need ironing out and we'll be running tests on them this week.
"We are hoping to make a decision about when the line will open on Monday next week.
