The 48-year-old discussed the O’s first game of the National League season and new signing Dale Gorman

Leyton Orient head coach Justin Edinburgh is happy they will play away to Salford City on the opening day of the National League season and is pleased the fixture will be broadcast live on BT Sport.

The schedule for the new campaign was announced last Wednesday afternoon and hours later it was revealed O’s first match will be on the TV.

Salford City may be new boys to the division, but their financial backing has placed them as the bookies favourites for the title before a ball has been kicked.

Graham Alexander has taken over as manager this summer and Orient can expect a tough test at Moor Lane on August 4 – a game which will probably be watched by the Ammies owners Phil and Gary Neville, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.

But Edinburgh said: “We know about the publicity which comes with Salford City and we know they will probably have the biggest budget in the league we are in, but it’s a good fixture.

“The players are looking forward to it. It is a tough start, but until you get to around game 10 or 12 no one really has consistency or form.

“We will look back at it more at the end of the season rather than the beginning, but I think it is a very good fixture and I am pleased to be on TV.”

After kicking off the campaign at title favourites Salford, Orient will then play host to Ebbsfleet United.

The Fleet reached the play-offs last season and made the semi-finals, so will no doubt also provide stern opposition for the O’s.

Returning to Brisbane Road will be ex-loanee Jack Payne and also Ebou Adams, who spent five months at Orient between January and May while on loan from Norwich City under-23s.

Many fans had hoped Adams would move to E10 permanently, but he decided to go to Ebbsfleet instead.

When asked about the former loanee returning, Edinburgh replied: “I don’t think the game will be about Ebou, it will be about us.

“Ebou is a player we had on loan and he did well for us, but we have moved on and he is no longer with Leyton Orient.

“I believe Dale Gorman, who is still working his way back to full fitness, will be a more than adequate replacement for Ebou. The game isn’t about Ebou, it is about Leyton Orient and Ebbsfleet.”
