Taskmaster is set to return for its 16th series with celebrity contestants having to use the best of their skills and out-of-the-box thinking to overcome plenty of wacky challenges.

Once again Greg Davies and Alex Horne will be back to oversee the show and put a new group through their paces.

It was only back in June that the last series ended, with Mae Martin having come out the winner, and people clearly can't get enough of the hilarious antics that go on.

Here's all you need to know ahead of the return of Taskmaster to Channel 4.

Who are the celebrity contestants for Taskmaster Series 16?

The five new contestants for the latest series of Taskmaster are:

  • Julian Clary
  • Lucy Beaumont
  • Sam Campbell
  • Sue Perkins
  • Susan Wokoma

Julian Clary is a comedian, actor, novelist and presenter who became known as a regular on Friday Night Live during the 1980s.

He has also made appearances on numerous shows such as Prickly Heat, Sticky Moments With Julian Clary, Who Do You Think You Are?, Celebrity Big Brother, Have I Got News For You, and Your Face Sounds Familiar.

Lucy Beaumont is a stand-up comedian known for her deadpan and observational humour.

She has been featured as a guest on numerous comedy programmes such as 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, and stars in the comedy Meet the Richardsons along with her husband Jon Richardson.

Another stand-up comedian comes in the form of Sam Campbell, who won the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Award in 2018 and the main prize at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival in 2022.

He has made acting appearances in shows such as Stath Lets Flats and Bloods.

Sue Perkins is a comedian well-known for her double-act with Mel Giedroyc and for being a presenter on The Great British Bake Off between 2010 and 2016.

Finally, Susan Wokoma is an actress, writer and director who has appeared in the Enola Holmes films, Half of a Yellow Sun, The Inbetweeners 2, Year of the Rabbit, Cheaters, and Crashing among many others.

What sort of challenges will the contestants face?

Teasing some of the tasks ahead this time, Channel 4 said in a statement: "This fragrant five will wrangle giant ducks, design fresh sausages and create googly-eyed gangs as they seek to attract a word of praise from the Taskmaster."

When will Taskmaster Series 16 be airing?

The first episode of the 16th series of Taskmaster will air at 9pm on Thursday, September 21 on Channel 4.

In total, there will be 10 episodes which will likely air at the same time every Thursday up until November 23.
