ENVIRONMENT enthusiasts swapped indoors for the outdoors at the weekend to join scientists, naturalists and other experts for a day of fun and discovery in Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park.

The team of experts showed people how to identify different species of wildlife as they worked against the clock to spot and record as many varieties of animals, plants, and fungi as possible at the BioBlitz on Saturday.

East Enders turned up to the park in Southern Grove, Mile End to help contribute to the scientific survey which took in habitats including woodlands, meadows and ponds.

Park liaison officer Kenneth Greenway said: “The BioBlitz event showcased the nature on your doorstep and highlighted ways you can get involved with the local community, environment and diverse array of local species.

“The BioBlitz is a very effective way to raise our concerns with the public and to show the wildlife that we have in our city to the next generation.”
