Weekend rail services from Liverpool Street out to Stratford and Shenfield won’t be running for another six weekends caused by Network Rail engineering work for Crossrail, passengers are warned.

TfL is running replacement buses on the next few Saturdays and Sundays between Stratford and Shenfield, diverting midway to Newbury Park on the Central line.

The work has already involved new overhead cables and platform extensions at several stations on the Crossrail route between Stratford and Shenfield, where it runs above ground, and a new footbridge at Harold Wood.

“We’re almost halfway through the work,” a Network Rail spokesman said. “Closing the railway at weekends can be inconvenient, but it’s important we carry out these upgrades.”

No weekend services are running from Liverpool Street out to Ingatestone or Wickford for the next four weeks, with a bus replacement service instead from Newbury Park on the Central line.

Passengers are being advised to check National Rail online before travelling at weekends out to Essex.
