THE foundation stone has been laid at a community centre for the start of a £4.4 million 'world class' youth project in London's East End.

It will run a wide range of services to help tackle some of the health and social problems in derived areas of Whitechapel and Spitalfields.

The £4.4 million project at Whitechapel's Osmani Centre in Underwood Road is due to be completed in a year's time, which will also include a bigger playground for Osmani Primary school.

Some of the cash comes from 'planning gain' form the Bishops Square office development at Spitalfields.
