CYCLISTS were testing out a new route through Mile End Park today as a new bridge opened across Regent's Canal
The 65-tonne Meath Bridge at Haverfield Road in Mile End provides a link between Bethnal Green and Bow, giving cyclists and walkers the chance to avoid the busy Mile End Road.
And the opening marked the first step in the development of a two-mile greenway linking Bethnal Green through to Victoria Park and the Olympic Park.
East Enders voted for the bridge in 2007 which was developed by the transport charity Sustrans and Tower Hamlets council with the help of 300,000 from the Big Lottery Fund.
