FAMILIES in East London are being asked their views on major development proposals for a park, hotel, supermarket and new primary school on the banks of the River Lea.
The Tesco supermarket chain is putting together a planning application involving land between the river and the A12 dual-carriageway Blackwall Tunnel Approach, from Three Mills Lane in the north to the Fenchurch Street-Southend Railway and London Underground District Line in the south.
The company's Corporate Affairs manager Eoin Dardis said: "The new store alone will create 200 new jobs.
"But it's more than just a new store. We've invited people from 5,000 households in the area to our public exhibitions so they can see what we're proposing before we submit our planning application."
He added: "I hope people will come along and tell us what they think. This area is their home, after all."
The plans are to be submitted to the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation, which has drawn up a Masterplan for the Lower Lea Valley area. This sets principles for land use on the site, where new homes, school, park and retail should go.
The proposals are also being displayed at Tesco's current Bromley-by-Bow store in Three Mills Lane from Monday (Sept 28).
