THIS is a sneak preview of the new 2012 DLR train being unveiled by the Mayor of London tomorrow morning (Thurs).
The Advertiser has obtained an advance shot of the bright, new three-carriage driverless trains that are going to be running on the automatic Docklands Light Railway system through East London ready for the 2012 Olympics at Stratford.
Ken Livingstone unveils the first of the fleet of 55 new carriages at West India Quay station on the Isle of Dogs at 10am, accompanied by Olympics authority chairman John Armitt.
The new carriages, with sleeker designs, larger windows, and in a bright red reminiscent of the old London Underground pre-1960s livery, will form a substantial part of the DLR fleet throughout the London 2012 Games.
Trains are being lengthened to three carriages to deal with growing passenger numbers from 2010.
The DLR's £211m Stratford International extension, meanwhile, is set to open in 2010. The present Stratford branch which already calls at Canning Town and West Ham is also having new stops added at Star Lane, Abbey Road and Stratford High Street to improve public transport access over a three-mile stretch of East London.
