REVISED plans to redevelop an underused former goods yard near the Tower of London between will be shown to the public for the first time this week.

Developers Zog hope to transform the site between Royal Mint Street and Chamber Street by building new homes, offices, shops, cafes and a hotel.

They say the development will be a landmark corner to Royal Mint Street and Tower Bridge Approach.

John West, Chairman of developers Zog said: "This is one of the last remaining undeveloped sites in this part of the city.

"Our vision shows how we can bring it back to life with new homes, jobs and community benefits, whilst remaining sensitive to the character of the surrounding area.

"I think when people learn more about the proposals they will be pleasantly surprised by how we have improved the previously approved scheme."

The proposals include approximately 400 new private and affordable homes, space for small and medium-sized businesses and a 5-star hotel.

A new piazza with restaurants, bars and shops will include a cultural space for a museum or art gallery and a new link will also be created between Royal Mint Street and Chamber Street to overcome the barrier of the railway line.

The site has an existing planning permission for a ten-storey office development but Mr West said the new proposals will bring a greater mix of uses, with improved community benefits, including open space with public art at its heart.

Modern environmental and sustainability features proposed include a combined heat and power facility, solar panels, green roofs and rainwater harvesting.

A public exhibition will be held from 1-8pm on Friday and from 10am-1pm on Saturday in The Arches, Chamber Street.

A planning application is due to be submitted to Tower Hamlets council's planning department in the near future.
