NEWLYWED Michael Roberts died in a road accident a few hundred yards from the flat he shared with his bride in London's Docklands.

The 54-year-old was crossing the busy West India Dock-road at Limehouse when he was involved in an accident with a Yamaha 1,000cc motorbike on Friday (August 22).

The couple lived close by in Anglia House in Salmon-lane, off East India Dock-road.

Neighbour Sarzama Ali, 27, a mother-of-two, said: “He was a really nice guy.

“His wife had told me a few months ago they'd just got married. They were a very happy couple.”

Passengers on a bus watched in horror as Michael was killed crossing the road. The motorcyclist was taken to hospital in shock.

An inquest was opened at Poplar Coroner's Court today (Wednesday) and was adjourned.

A 43-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving, Scotland Yard said later. He has been released on police bail until September 18.
