Orient boss insists this is only the beginning with Cambridge United visiting on Saturday

Leyton Orient player-manager Kevin Nolan is plotting a third straight win since taking charge at Brisbane Road this weekend, but insists it is only the beginning for the east Londoners.

The 33-year-old has enjoyed a wonderful start to life as boss of the League Two club and seen them beat Wycombe Wanderers and Newport County.

Cambridge United are the next visitors on Saturday with the O’s now looking up the table. They find themselves in sixth place, but the former West Ham captain insists more is to come.

“It has been difficult and I have had a few long, sleepless nights. That is obviously not helping and giving me a tougher time when it comes to getting on the training pitch,” said Nolan.

“I haven’t slept too well since I took the job, but it is something I will have to manage. I know when it is Saturday to Saturday it will become a bit easier.

“Once I took the job last Thursday it has been 100mph, but I have really enjoyed it, especially when you get two wins on the spin in your first two games, but this is only a beginning.”

While Nolan has been delighted with how his players have responded to him on the training ground, he appreciates a lot more hard work is required.

It would be easy to get carried away with Orient registering successive clean sheets for the first time this season and being only eight points off the top three.

But Nolan, who made his debut against Newport on Tuesday, expects a stern test against the U’s - who are managed by Shaun Derry.

He added: “This is only a start, it is two nice wins, but if we get another on Saturday then it is even better. It is about keeping our feet firmly on the ground and looking forward to what will be a tough game against Cambridge.”

Nolan had former West Ham team-mates Andy Carroll and Mark Noble watching on Tuesday against the Exiles.

Orient’s boss revealed his determination to be a success with the League Two club, adding: “The support I have received since I have taken the job makes me feel that I have made the right decision.

“The confidence they have given me in saying I can be a success has made me feel a lot better. I am hoping I can be a success.

“It is something I will be giving 100 per cent, but as I said it is only the beginning. This is only a start.

“I’m a rookie still. I have got a lot to learn and I’m going to go through ups and downs, but at this moment I’ve really enjoyed it.”
