Former West Ham United captain looks back on 1-1 draw and the inconsistency of the east Londoners

Leyton Orient player-manager Kevin Nolan was delighted Lloyd James was back in the goals at York City this afternoon in League Two.

His 75th minute strike was only able to give the east Londoners a point at Bootham Crescent and extended their run of games without a win to three.

But the 28-year-old impressed after his introduction and scored for the first time since netting in the 2-1 loss to Luton in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on September 1.

It has been a difficult few years for the midfielder after missing three months of this season and suffering a broken leg in the 2014/15 campaign.

Nolan was thrilled for him to show his ability and cancel out Bradley Fewster’s 17th minute opener. The O’s boss discussed whether James could start at Barnet next weekend.

He said: “Lloyd is a good player and I have a lot of admiration for him even from when I was here as a player coming into train. He is a good lad that understands football really well.

“I’m delighted he got the goal. It has been a long road for him getting back, especially after the year he had before when he broke his leg.

“Obviously it is fantastic for him and we will see how he trains this week and how he is feeling then I’ll pick my team for Barnet.”

The O’s boss went on to discuss how frustrating it can be to see his team so inconsistent at times.

York dominated the opening 30 minutes at Bootham Crescent before the visitors slowly got into the contest.

And Nolan reflected on the 4-0 reverse to Northampton Town, after it was goalless at half time, as a prime example of his side blowing hot and cold.

He added: “I think the most disappointing thing for us this season is when we have lost games it has been due to us not doing the right things at the right time or individual errors.

“You’ve seen today not matching the opposition or having a look at the Northampton Town result. We matched them more than most would have in that first half, but second we were a completely different team.

“I think the second 45 at York we did more than enough to get the result we deserved and I thought we should have got the win, but you have to respect the point and especially when it is such a difficult place to come with them fighting for their lives.”
