Nolan wants O’s to keep learning

Player-manager reflects on inconsistent run of form recently and Jerome Binnom-Williams debut

Leyton Orient player-manager Kevin Nolan is looking for his team to get more consistency in their game after beating Notts County at the weekend.
It was the O’s third consecutive win on the road under the former West Ham United captain since his appointment last month.
While Shaun Brisley’s 76th minute goal gave the east Londoners more success on the road, they haven’t received the same positive results at home.
Nolan’s men beat Newport County 1-0 in his first match at Brisbane Road, but have lost to Cambridge United and Northampton Town since.

He is now keen for his squad to learn how to pick up points when they are not at their best.

“I’ve just told the lads I’m not worried about the table. We’ll start concentrating on the table if we’re in and among it in the latter stages of the season,” said Nolan.

“We’ve got to make sure we go on an unbeaten run and that’s what I said before. I said no matter what happens at Notts County if we don’t get the win, we have to make sure we don’t lose.
“It is not a negative mentality it is just making sure we get it into our armoury to draw a game. At the moment we are spiking, we are winning and doing really well then the next minute we have a bad performance where we are losing 4-0 or 3-1.
“We need to get out of that and when we are not playing well we have got to be able to see the match out and get a 0-0 - that is what all the best teams in the world do.”
Nolan gave Jerome Binnom-Williams his O’s debut at Meadow Lane and the 20-year-old didn’t do too much wrong.
The Crystal Palace left-back was a touch rusty at times, but defended well for large parts of the match.
Orient’s player-manager explained why it had taken the youngster a little bit of time to finally make his first appearance for the club.
He added: “I thought Jerome was fantastic. He is a lad we know a lot about, Andy Hessenthaler had spoken to Mark Bright about him and a few other people.
“Last weekend he was ill and the week before at Portsmouth it was probably too early to throw him in because he had probably only trained with the lads once that week.
“I thought he come in and did really well and can only get better. He needs to get fitter, we know that, but I am delighted with his first performance.”
