Now East End café owners are told how to make food healthier

FREE workshops on how to put healthier food on menus in restaurants, cafés and fast food takeaways are being organised for owners and managers in London's East End. They are aimed at food outlets to help them learn how small changes can make dishes healthier in the fight against obesity

FREE workshops on how to put healthier food on menus in restaurants, cafés and fast food takeaways are being organised for owners and managers in London's East End by nutrition experts.

They are aimed at food outlets to help them learn how small changes to their menu can make dishes healthier in the fight against obesity.

The four sessions by health and nutrition specialists are part of Tower Hamlets' £4.68 million 'healthy borough' programme aimed at combating the East End's high levels of obesity, especially among children.

Michele Sandelson, NHS Tower Hamlets' public health dietitian, showed at one session last week how small changes in preparing meals could reduce obesity and the health problems it causes, such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer.

Two more sessions are planned in the New Year, each running two hours from 9.30am, on January 29 and March 31.
