TOWN Hall bosses have been given £1,000 to help schoolgirls in London’s East End match the boys and improve their rugby skills.
The money is being used by Tower Hamlets council for coaching sessions and tournaments.
It is aimed at helping a struggling Tower Hamlets teams compete in both rugby and netball in the London Youth Games.
The cash from Balfour Beatty’s London Youth Games sports development fund is the first time the authority has set out a programme of girls’ rugby training to encourage youngsters to take up the sport.
Rugby coaching sessions are being provided at several schools, while netball is being developed through the current schools’ netball league with more training and friendly matches out of season to help develop confidence and skills on the court. Both programmes start in February.
