East Londoners boss wants team to start taking opportunities they are making

Leyton Orient player-manager Kevin Nolan has called on his team to take the chances they create against Hartlepool United tomorrow (Monday).

The O’s fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Accrington Stanley on Good Friday to drop out of the play-off places.

Scott Brown scored the only goal of the game while Australian Alex Cisak was forced to make a couple of fine saves.

And the ex-West Ham United captain now wants to witness his players rediscover their shootings boots when the Monkey Hangers visit.

Nolan said: “The good thing is we have 48 hours and then you’re looking at another game this time against Hartlepool.

“I’ve been talking about it, but it is about going on an unbeaten run so when you’re not playing well you respect the point.

“Then when you are playing well you have to make sure you punish teams because when we have been playing well, doing all the right things and making chances, we still haven’t finished sides off.

“Obviously that is something we’ve really got to get better at and it has to get better quickly because we’re running out of matches.”

Even though frustrated with the lack of opportunities created at the Crown Ground on Friday, Nolan is proud of his squad.

He thanked them once again for buying into his ideas and believes they can create something special at Brisbane Road.

“Listen, I’m proud of the boys since I’ve come in. I think they’ve reacted fantastically well to me,” added Nolan.

“We are getting there as a team and look a solid side and that’s the main thing. We have a good platform with that to build from.

“I believe we are good in possession but I just think in the final third we can get better, but if you ask any manager he’ll say the same thing.”
