Ian Hendon discusses what position he wants to recruit in and what the players will be doing on the training camp in Spain

Leyton Orient are looking to add a left-back to their squad ahead of the new League Two season.

Head coach Ian Hendon revealed last week that it was a position where the O’s needed to strengthen and expects more arrivals following the confirmation that forward Ollie Palmer has signed a two-year deal at Brisbane Road.

Palmer is the fifth player to agree a move to Orient this summer with 13 going out the exit door – Darius Henderson the latest to “pursue other opportunities.”

It means Orient have a new look feel to them, but Hendon isn’t finished yet and has prioritised getting a new left-back in.

He said: “There are a couple of positions we need to strengthen and obviously we do need a left-back and I am talking to people regarding that and I will be out watching games.

“Agents panic and stuff like that, but I have the targets that I want and a couple may be imminent and we will see what happens then going forward.

“Ideally I would like to have my squad for the training camp to Spain. I would like to have the majority, well I have the majority already, but I would like, if I could, for the squad to be complete by the time we go there.”

Orient jet off to Malaga this time next week (July 14) for a training camp in Alhaurin el Grande.

Although some people may be sceptical about a pre-season break to Spain, Hendon has insisted it won’t be easy for his players.

Instead the 43-year-old is planning a gruelling fitness regime for his Orient squad to get them ready for the start of the season.

“We are going to get a lot of work done there,” replied Hendon when asked what the reason behind the trip to Malaga was.

“I don’t know what people think about going to Spain for a training camp, but the players will be up early before breakfast to do something, have their breakfast and then we will do our football.

“We will have three or four sessions a day and we have a gym there, a swimming pool and bikes so it is going to be a fitness hit for the week that we are there.”

Orient will also play Huddersfield Town in a pre-season friendly clash on July 18 in Malaga and one against another side, yet to be decided.
