THE redevelopment of an old hospital on the edge of London's 2012 Olympic site reached a milestone with the 'topping-out' of the first phase.
The last bucket of concrete was poured out at the former St Andrew's Hospital at Bromley-by-Bow, which is being turned into 1,000 new homes with a health centre, park and community centre.
The topping out marked the completion of the external structure of the huge joint private-public project between the London Development Agency, Barratt Homes and Circle Anglia housing group, half of which is 'low cost' housing.
The first 194 homes on the site, one of the few major regeneration schemes to be started in East London during the recession, are due to be finished in the spring with 80 per cent sold.
