Leyton Orient forward Ollie Palmer is keen to build on his brace against Staines Town after admitting his confidence is up now.

Ian Hendon’s men cruised into the second round of the FA Cup on Saturday after thrashing the non-league outfit 6-1.

Dean Cox scored twice alongside the 23-year-old with John Marquis and Sean Clohessy netting late on to seal the success.

It was Palmer’s first goals for the O’s since finding the net against Stevenage back on August 18 and he was thrilled to help his side avoid an upset.

He added: “I had a few long range efforts after my goals and you see that when your confidence starts picking up, you start shooting from all over the place.

“I think one was 40-yards-out, but it was one of those things. I wasn’t meant to get my hat-trick on Saturday and the same for ‘Coxy’ but I am happy we got the result.

“These games can be a potential banana skin like it showed for Notts County against Salford City so I am just happy it went for us and we were professional and come out on top.”

Palmer admitted he is desperate to continue his goalscoring form next weekend when Orient make the trip to Hartlepool United in League Two.

The O’s will be playing at Victoria Park on Sunday with the match live on Sky Sports and kicking-off at 12.15pm.

He praised the performances of substitutes Freddy Moncur, Scott Kashket and John Marquis after the five-goal triumph and believes it shows the strength of the east Londoners squad.

“You want to score goals and as long as we are winning that is the main thing, but as a striker you want to score goals,” admitted Palmer.

“I have had to be patient, but hopefully I am off the mark now and can take it into next weekend’s match.

“With Freddy coming off the bench and Scotty and John we have quality within the squad and Blair Turgott had a good game.

“It just shows we have got quality all over the park and it is down to us to raise it that little bit more.”
