New time-lapse footage released today shows the intricate construction of the UK’s tallest sculpture being build at the Olympic Park.
The ArcelorMittal Orbit has reached almost half its eventual height of 376ft (114.5m) and is expected to be completed in March 2012.
It is hoped the structure, which will have two observation floors offering stunning views across London’s skyline, will attract one million visitors in its first year.
Visitors will be whisked up in a lift and have the option of walking down a spiralling staircase, Work has begun on installing the lift-shaft and seven 20 tonne rings were lifted into place last month.
It will be made up of 1,500 tonnes of steel and will sit between the Stadium and the Aquatics Centre.
