A volunteer at The Space on the Isle of Dogs has raised 240 for centre after being one of the first to cross the finishing line inside the Olympic Stadium.

Annie Walker, 60, who volunteers in the box office of the performing arts and community centre on Westferry Road, was one of the 5,000 people who took park in The Olympic Park Run last month.

Ms Walker said: “I’ve been part of parkrun, a free initiative which sees people running 5k every Saturday morning at Mile End Park, since Christmas, and the other runners were urging me to take part in the Olympic Stadium race.

“The run started from the Orbit and we ran through the park past all the venues. As we ran into the stadium they were playing Chariots of Fire music. It was a fantastic experience. It’s a wonderful venue”

Participants were picked at random from almost 43,000 entrants from around the UK who joined the National Lottery 5k run.
