It has been one thing after another for the Leyton Orient boss, but he has dealt with everything chucked at him

Leyton Orient manager Omer Riza has taken advice from various people in football over the last six weeks since being handed the main job at Brisbane Road.

The 37-year-old stepped up from his role as assistant on March 30 when Danny Webb resigned and instantly faced numerous problems.

Riza had to contend with several injury issues and the fact his staff and players were not paid on time.

It was one thing after another for the ex-Arsenal striker, but he handled everything chucked at him.

“I am very good friends with Millwall’s assistant Dave Livermore and we are like brothers and very close friends, so we speak all the time,” said Riza.

“Dagenham & Redbridge’s John Still is another person I have spoken to, the other day, and I know a few people in the game and most people have been proud of the way I have dealt with the whole situation at the club.

“People have heard good things about the way we have played on the pitch and how I have held myself, so it is nice to hear that.

“It has been good to speak to people and get advice about things I am doing and even family members, so that’s helped me and hopefully we can move on from this.”

Riza, despite being 37, is actually older than five rival League Two managers, which demonstrates how chairman are willing to give youth a chance.

Kevin Nolan, David Artell, Michael Flynn, Darren Sarll and Darren Way are all younger than the current Orient boss.

“It is nice to see younger managers coming through now, but providing they are ready because there are a lot of experienced managers out there and there is of course a place for them,” said Riza.

“There always will be, but I think fresh ideas help and I have played in Turkey and Holland for long periods of time, so I feel I can bring in a different playing ethos. I am born and bred in Edmonton, but it is nice to bring in a different idea.

“I have worked under different managers before like Arsene Wenger and Harry Redknapp, so I would like to think I have picked up a few bits along the way and hopefully I have not done too badly.”
