OPENING hours at a council-run centre aimed at helping people find work have been slammed by politicians.
Liberal Democrats in Tower Hamlets have criticised the opening hours of Skillsmatch as the main office in South Colonnade in Canary Wharf closes for two and a half hours each day and all day Friday.
"It's not good enough. In a time when there is an increase in unemployment we need Skillsmatch to be open full time and every day," said councillor Azizur Rahman Khan (Bethnal Green North).
Lib Dems have asked for Oliur Rahman, the Cabinet member in charge of employment and skills to look into the opening hours.
They want to see it open full time during the week and on Saturdays to give the unemployed in Tower Hamlets a boost in finding work.
Figures show that in November 2009 there were 2,250 long term job jobless in Tower Hamlets, compared with 1,775 in December 2008.
