Leyton Orient have a double cause for celebration after the Sky Bet League Two manager and player of the month for August was announced.

Ian Hendon and Dean Cox have been shortlisted for the award after helping the O’s pick up five wins from five in the league – the only side in the division with a 100 per cent record.

Although the 43-year-old has only been in charge of the Brisbane Road club for a short space of time, he has overseen a brilliant start to the campaign.

Meanwhile Cox has been revitalised under Hendon and played a starring role for the O’s despite struggling with form and injury last year.

He has scored twice, a stunning free-kick against Dagenham & Redbridge and a crucial effort in the win at Newport County, and picked up five assists in the league.

Cox is rivalled for the award by Cambridge United forward Barry Corr, who scored five goals in three games for the U’s.

Former Orient ace Jabo Ibehre is also nominated after finding the net seven times in five matches for Carlisle United while Wycombe Wanderers defender Aaron Pierre is on the shortlist after scoring twice – including against Dagenham recently.

Hendon faces competition from Plymouth Argyle boss Derek Adams. He has picked up 12 points out of a possible 15 since arriving in Devon.

New Portsmouth manager Paul Cook is also nominated after seeing his side remain unbeaten in the league while Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth is also up for the award.

Orient, Plymouth, Wycombe and Portsmouth are the top four teams in the division and Hendon and Cox will find out if they have won the gong on Friday.
