The O’s lost 6-1 to MK Dons last time but will hope to achieve a better result in the Capital One Cup this evening

Leyton Orient forward Jay Simpson is hoping the club can give a much better account of themselves this evening (Tuesday) when they face MK Dons in the first round of the Capital One Cup.

The last time the two teams met on April 18, Karl Robinson’s side smashed Fabio Liverani’s team 6-1 in League One.

It was a huge blow to Orient’s relegation hopes and in the end would prove a crucial defeat for self belief more than anything else.

Simpson was one of the few O’s players who could walk off the stadiummk pitch with any credit after scoring against the Dons.

But everything seems different at Brisbane Road now, despite relegation, with new boss Ian Hendon bringing a new feel of positivity to E10.

With that in mind, Simpson, fresh from scoring against Barnet on Saturday, is keen for the O’s to make amends tonight.

He said: “MK Dons will be a really hard game and they pulled our pants last time so it will be tough.

“It is in the cup and we are focused on the league, but it will be a great game for us to play in.

“That game before was a bad day. As a professional you don’t want to lose but when you lose like that it is embarrassing. Hopefully we can go there and give a better account of ourselves.”

Orient will make the trip to MK Dons off the back of an encouraging 2-0 triumph over Barnet last weekend.

Simpson and Paul McCallum were on target and the former Arsenal man praised the atmosphere at Brisbane Road.

He insisted it felt like more supporters were backing the team compared to last season when they were in the division above.

“It was nice to come out just before we kicked off and we looked around in the stands and you see a lot more people than you did last year,” added Simpson.

“We have gone down a division but we are drawing bigger crowds. The atmosphere was great and the fans were excellent.

“With a new manager coming in and new players hopefully they can see we are trying to work hard to get out the division and it is nice to have them behind us.

“Last year is gone now but it was nice to win our first home game. Last season we didn’t have the best of records at Brisbane Road so it was good to get a win here and push last year behind us.

“It was brilliant turn out by the fans and it seemed like a lot more were here compared to last season so it is great to know they are behind us as well.”
