Leyton Orient have been drawn away to Championship side Milton Keynes Dons in the first round of the Capital One Cup.

It means Ian Hendon’s side will come up against a team they suffered a 6-1 loss against towards the end of the 2014/15 campaign, a result which helped the Dons secure automatic promotion and contributed towards relegation for the Brisbane Road outfit.

Last season’s competition provided the O’s and their supporters with some rare highlights during a dismal campaign, though.

In the first round they beat League Two side Plymouth Argyle 6-5 on penalties following a six-goal thriller after extra time at Home Park.

Dean Cox, Mathieu Baudry and Romain Vincelot netted for Orient that day and the latter also inspired a triumph in the second round.

The Brisbane Road club were drawn away again and this time to Premier League giants Aston Villa, who would go on to reach the final of the FA Cup.

O’s and the midlands club battled it out at Villa Park and it remained goalless for a long time and as extra time seemed on the cards, the Frenchman popped up again.

Bradley Pritchard crossed in for Vincelot to power a header past Shay Given in the 88th minute to delight the 976 Orient fans in attendance.

The run ended with a 1-0 home defeat against League One rivals Sheffield United, in what proved to be Russell Slade’s last game as manager.

After Kevin Nugent’s brief spell as interim boss, Italian Mauro Milanese led the side for a handful of matches, before Fabio Liverani was installed as their fourth manager of the season.

He was sacked after failing to avoid relegation and now Hendon is at the helm. Orient’s new head coach and O’s supporters will be looking forward to facing Dons and hopefully earning revenge following last year’s thrashing at stadium MK.

The tie will take place the week commencing August 10.
