Behind closer doors match with Championship side Middlesbrough has been confirmed

Leyton Orient have confirmed they will play Championship side Middlesbrough this evening in a pre-season friendly match in Marbella.

Ian Hendon’s team jetted off to Malaga yesterday for an intense training camp to prepare them for the new League Two campaign, which starts on August 8.

They are set to play another Championship team, Huddersfield, on Saturday and will now face Aitor Karanka’s Boro side tonight.

Orient played their first pre-season game on Friday and suffered a 2-1 loss to National League outfit Braintree Town.

And the O’s will look to get more match fitness against Middlesbrough and continue their plans for the new season.

Boro boss Karanka told their official club website that his team were hoping to avoid any more injuries when they faced the Brisbane Road outfit.

Middlesbrough’s opening friendly of the summer – a 1-0 win at York City last weekend – was marred by a serious injury to Alex Baptiste, who suffered a double fracture of the leg.

“The main thing is to not get injuries,” said Karanka. “The first game against York was important because it was the first, but we lost Alex Baptiste and it was difficult for me and the team. For now the main thing against Orient is to finish with 11.

“I’m not looking at the scores, I just want us to finish the game better than we started.”

The behind closed doors fixture kicks-off at 6.30pm, local time, and it will give Hendon another chance to assess his squad.
