When police officers stopped two brothers for cycling on the pavement in Bethnal Green Road, they discovered one of them was riding a stolen bike.

A quick check on the bike’s frame number found it had been previously reported stolen from Hounslow, and the 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

The cycle has now been returned to a grateful owner, who can now continue her leisure activities.

Acting Police Sergeant Scott Manning said, “We are delighted to have found the bike and returned it to it’s rightful owner.

“It shows the value of recording frame numbers and taking some basic crime prevention advice to help you get your bike back in these cases.

“We hold free bike marking events and anyone is welcome to come along and have their bike marked for free”.

Enquiries continue into the theft of the bike.
