BLACK History Month was launched in style with film screenings, a chance to try African drumming and a fashion show at the Brady Arts Centre in Whitechapel.

This year's month long celebration in Tower Hamlets includes family fun days, educational talks, exhibitions, music workshops, food tasting and film screenings.

Councillor Rofique U Ahmed, who has a responsibility for culture in East London said: "Black History Month is a great celebration where we can all join together and recognise the positive contributions made by black communities. This year we've got more than 130 events and activities taking place in the borough for people to enjoy.

"The launch event gave people a taste of things to come."

An events programme is available on www.towerhamletsarts.org.uk and at libraries, Idea Stores and One Stop Shops.
