Big forward hoping to help Kevin Nolan’s side keep in the hunt for promotion

Leyton Orient forward Ollie Palmer doesn’t believe they can have any excuses about fatigue when they entertain Luton Town at Brisbane Road tomorrow.

It will be the third match the O’s have played this week after beating Crawley Town last Saturday and drawing 2-2 with Carlisle United on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old’s impact off the bench at Brunton Park helped them extend their unbeaten run to three matches.

But the Hatters make the trip to east London having won three successive games under new boss Nathan Jones.

Former Orient first team coach Kevin Nugent is also part of the backroom team at Luton and Palmer discussed his return.

“He is a top bloke and he’s going to know what we’re all about, but I don’t think we’re going to be thinking about that too much,” said the former Mansfield Town forward.

“We’re just going to try to do what the new gaffer has set us up to do, worry about how we’re going to play and get back to winning ways with another three points on Saturday.

“It is a quick turnaround, but everybody has to do that in this league and we are no different to anyone else.

“We all have to go through these situations of travelling up and down the country. We will rest up and prepare for Saturday the same as everyone else.”

Palmer admitted the O’s squad were left with mixed emotions after their encounter against the Cumbrians.

While a point would have been a satisfying result before the match, they were disappointed to only draw after leading with six minutes remaining.

He scored his seventh goal of the season at Carlisle and was trying to remain upbeat about Tuesday night.

“A positive is we extend our unbeaten run and that is three or four games away from home where we haven’t lost now,” added Palmer.

“We want to keep winning and if we can’t do that, you get a draw and respect the point sometimes and we have to do that at Carlisle.

“I think before the game a 2-2 draw wouldn’t have been the worst result. I don’t really want to comment on the first half because I wasn’t playing, but at the break we probably would have taken a point.

“The boys know we weren’t at our best in the opening 45 and we have been a lot better in the last couple of weeks so mixed emotions really. I think we probably should have walked away with a win.”

Orient will hope they are not saying the same thing tomorrow when Luton visit Brisbane Road.

The clash will see Nugent as well as Scott Cuthbert come back to E10 for the first time since departing this season.
