PARENTS within the East End's Muslim community were being offered a helping hand in raising their teenagers at a special seminar.
Around 270 parents gathered at the London Muslim Centre in Whitechapel Road to discuss the best ways to cope with their children.
Tower Hamlets council together with the Council of Mosques organised the meeting and welcomed a range of speakers including the Metropolitan Police's DS John Delaney and Dr Muhammad Bari from the Muslim Council of Britain.
Families heard about occasions when social workers and police have had to step-in to deal with teenagers and were given legal advice about disciplining young people and how to resolve conflicts.
Tower Hamlets' councillor for children and schools, Abdul Asad said: "If parents can support their adolescents in this way and offer proper guidance and boundaries, it is less likely that the young people will go on to commit crime and behave in an anti-social way.
"The aim was to enable parents to help their children become adults who lead positive lives and fulfil their potential. We had really good feedback from the event.
