EAST Enders will be preparing to kick-off the Mela celebrations in style with an art workshop on Sunday.

Tower Hamlets council together with the street art company Emergency Exit Arts is holding a free workshop at Bishops Square, when residents can create their banners and flags for next week's procession.

The procession will kick-start the Mela Baishakhi on Sunday May 23 when party-goers will parade through the streets from Bishops Square, through Hanbury Street, Brick Lane and onto Vallance Road.

They will finish in Weavers Field by noon where the fun will begin with international performers taking to the stage.

The workshop, sponsored by Spitalfields Estate and The Ballymore Group, will take place between noon and 4pm.
