A passenger had to be cut free by emergency fire-crews after a car crash on the busy A13 at Poplar in east London last night.

He had back injuries when the Nissan Micra he was travelling in was in collision with a ‘People Carrier’ at 8.15pm.

Ambulance paramedics were unable to get him out of the vehicle and called in the fire brigade which had to cut the car roof off to get him out.

He was taken to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel and detained overnight. The A13 was clear after an hour.

The driver and two other passengers were unhurt. The driver of the other vehicle involve also escaped injury.
